Exeat Adventures: Surfing in San Sebastián

Exeat weekends give Beau Soleil students the chance to enjoy a change of pace. Some choose to return home, others stay on campus, while some take the opportunity to join one of our organised Exeat trips.
This weekend, a group of students swapped the Swiss Alps for the Atlantic coast, travelling to San Sebastián for a weekend of surfing, culture and exploration.
After travelling from Lyon to Biarritz on Friday, the group continued down to San Sebastián and settled into the hotel. A walk through the city gave everyone a chance to get their bearings before heading out for pizza together that evening.
Saturday morning brought the first surf session at Zurriola Beach. With excellent waves and plenty of energy, students threw themselves into the experience, developing their skills and making the most of their time in the water.
After lunch at a local Spanish restaurant, students had some independent time to explore the city centre, from the area around the cathedral to its lively shopping streets. It was a chance to experience San Sebastián at their own pace, before meeting up again later in the day.
Blue skies greeted the group on Sunday for another morning of surfing. Back on dry land, the afternoon was spent discovering more of the city, including a walk up Monte Urgull to the historic fort and its spectacular views across San Sebastián and the surrounding beaches.
Of course, no trip to the Basque Country would be complete without experiencing some of its food. The final evening was spent at a local pintxos bar, where students sampled a variety of Basque dishes, with some proving more adventurous than others!
The weekend captured what Beau Soleil Exeat trips are all about: giving students the opportunity to experience somewhere new, try different activities and enjoy greater independence with their friends.
From catching waves on the Atlantic to exploring a new city and discovering Basque culture, it was certainly an Exeat weekend to remember and we can't wait for the next trip!
